Organized photo stealing from TE!

I found this one Travel Guide site full of TrekEarth photos! It seems that all the photos on the site have been stolen from TE. I spent just a little time on the site but still I found about 20 TE photos.
Ther is also two photos of mine so I know they didn't ask our permission to use the photos.

Here is the list of the members whose photos I found:

Miha2ou7
rstouffl
mikele_pl
onthemove
TravelerNL
thor68
maltagirl
leonorkuhn
miumiu
Karmenu
mdetay
tarantaevv
anes_lc
joaschmidt
ellelloo
Maged
dumbo

I'm sure there is much more TE photos so please check the following link:
http://www.finland-travel-guide.info/

Just click some of the links on the site and you will find more and more TE photos.
From the bottom of the page you can find stolen photos from different countries by clicking some of the links.

The web sites are really official looking and there is even European Union flag on the site logo.

I'm just thinking if someone is making money with our photos without our permission we should do something. But what can we do?

Re: Organized photo stealing from TE!

I too was amazed while doing a Google Search on "Ahwaneecee" a few days ago to see my TE photo of Yosemite's El Capitan as the first site listed.

I think there is pro and con on having photos used by others. TE is a public site which means almost anyone has access, and therefore the capability to view, or copy (steal). In America to use a copyright photo for profit without permission is illegal, but then very hard to prosecute.

As far as profiting by printing and selling your photos, it is highly unlikely because of the pixel resolution under 300 kb's. Certainly web images can be used but then I look at it as a form of free advertising, or linking to other sites like Google and Yahoo do. If you have a website, I think it is a good way to network with others and companies to drive business to your site.

I would suggest contacting the offending Company and request a written credit attached to your photos. Another approach would be to request payment in the future before posting. I suspect making copiers aware of your copyright protections, may persuade them to think first before copying again?

Hello thor,

I found your photo called *Christ Church Cathedral*.
See the link:
http://www.ireland-travel-guide.info/

It doesn't disturb me that my photo is on the travel guide site (actually is an honor) but it does that they didn't ask my permission.

Regards,
Eino
