Great Royaldevon 2020-02-19 5:46

Hello Gert,

This really does look like a shot from the more ancient past, than 1971. The total absence of cars and the lack of trailing electricity wires is significant. Though this is a wide main road, there is lots of evidence of trees, which I like.
It's a very well composed and sharp photograph. You used the f/g tree well; it links diagonally with other vertical features, whilst the horse drawn vehicle makes a similar link.
This is so tranquil compared with your w/s. In the w/s, there appears to be a policeman just about to create some order to the traffic!

I did wonder, at a time when Turkey had fewer tourists, how difficult was it to communicate effectively?

My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Default To Royaldevon: communicate

Hello Bev,
Thank you for your kind and well considered words.
It was surprisingly easy to get along with people in Turkey. I was young, and I met a lot of people of my age who had learned some English and wanted an opportunity to use it. With the older generations, and the less educated, I could somehow communicate with the very basic Turkish I had picked up. I found Turks generally extremely hospitable and helpful, so I never had any real problems.
Best regards,
Gert
