Great PaulVDV 2019-01-20 11:33

Hello Gert,
Fantastic architecture.
I would certainly also enjoy staying at such a hotel.
Great that people in Bhutan continue to build in the traditional style.
The green hills around Paro show that this place isn't located on a very high altitude. Without knowing a lot about it, I thought that the whole of Bhutan was very high.
Isn't it a very expensive country to visit? Or are there not certain restrictions for this country? I don't know exactly why I thought this is a country that I could never visit ...
Best regards, Paul

Default To PaulVDV: no restrictions

Thank you Paul, and welcome back.
It used to be strictly regulated how many tourists that could enter Bhutan in a year, but no longer. Tourism has increased dramatically in the last few years. However the rules remain that everyone must book a journey through a local travel agency (although your Belgian agency could do it for you through a Bhutanese company). Unless the tariffs have changed recently you have to pay $250 per day if you travel alone, 225 for each person in a small group and 200 each in a larger group (maximum maybe 10-12 persons). It sounds very expensive, but it includes all accommodation, food, transportation, guide, entrance to dzongs and museums, so in reality it's not that bad. A visa charge that used to be $20 is paid on arrival, the paper-work having been done by the agency in advance. Dress decently. T-shirts, torn jeans and sandals are frowned upon and could stop you from entering dzongs and monasteries.
Have a nice journey,
Gert

Thank you Gert for the extensive explanation.

For the time being I will still visit a few countries where I do not have to spend 250 $ per day.

Best regards,
Paul
