Down in the Underground II Photo

Photographer’s Note

Continuing on from my last post of the underground 16th century cistern used for storing water. Here you can see a closer view of the well which sits in the middle of this large complex, and the thin film of water which covers the floor is quite well visible. The circle in the floor is the reflection of the one and only opening in the vaulted ceiling, the only original light source and where the water comes in.
It is dark and cool down there and I found an eerie feeling.

Converted to black and white in the workshop as I think it suits the subject quite well too.

Your composition is beautifull with the symetry and the graphism of the round spot of ligt.

Yes, I remember. I was two years ago in El Jadida. It was very interesting and oryginal place. In my collection are photos from El Jadida and 100 photos from Marocco. Good light and colours.

de weerspiegeling op de vloer is indrukwekkend. Het geeft ook een vervreemdend effect; Het gat zou ook naast de poel kunnen liggen. Het sterke licht zou het haast doen denken.

Great work. Beautiful light and details in the tiles and reflection of the arch supports in the water supporting the reflection of the opening from the world above. Like the way you captured the ring of bricks at the top of the opening. Btw, at what time of day did you take this picture?

Hi Wanda,
it sure does look good in B&W also, but I prefer the main post. The vertical framing suits the image well and I love these reflections! Sharpness is perfect and the light from above was very pleasant. A great shot, very well done!

Hi Wanda,
this is wonderful in the light balance, I prefer the coloured one as the light impression is stronger with the colours in the reflected opening. With the differences of light in distance this one really allows the symmetry.
