The picture was taken in a typical Himba compound far from those one located close to the main roads visited by a multitude of tourists. For this visit it was absolutely necessary to engage a local guide: first 'cause it is not easy to find the compounds not influenced by the tourism without any sign or path leading to them, second 'cause You have to negotiate the admit to the compound with the chief of the community and if you don't speak their language they could be very distrustful of strangers specially if these are armed with every type of cameras. While your guide is negotiating with the chief you have to wait outside the compound. You have to be patient 'cause it can take even more then half an hour. After you have obtained the permit to enter to the compound you can talk to everybody(with the guide's help of course),can take pictures of whatever you want, visit the inside of their huts,etc..
It is very important: NOT TO GIVE THEM MONEY,ALCOHOLIC
DRINKS,CANDIES!
In the negotiation we have included ingredients for cooking packed in paper bags from 5 to 15kgs like meal,rice,salt,etc..
That is the only way to preserve their lifestyle and culture which have become increasingly endangered due to the uncontrolled influx of tourists into the Kaokaveld, the region giving home to some 6000 Himba.
As a result of, many Himba have become beggars and alcoholics.

The picture is real good but you are a real tourist...disgraceful...who needs a guide when you are facing real people.

Hi Szili,
I like the photo very much and consider it very good in terms of photojournalism, and well complemented by the note. Else, you got a very natutal expression from your subject, wich is great for portraits.

Hi
First of all - great note. I wish I could always, with every picture, read such interesting notes.
About the photo. It's a beatifully taken, in the right moment, portrait.
I like also the colour of the blurred background - works with the colour of the skin of your model.
Good decision to frame the photo :)
Take care

Great shot of this beautiful little child. I love it how he seems very thoughtful and isn't really paying attention to you. The POV and the sharpness are very good. Plus, I appreciated the supporting note a lot. Thank you so much for sharing.

Hi Attila,
this child is very appealing.
Have you ever given any portrait to any of those models ?
Do they know what are you doing with your camera ?
Please forgive my obvious mystification.
Thank you,
Athanasios.

Szia Attila!
Bogarászván a régebbi képek között találtam ezt a remek, dokumentum értékű portrét. A jól megválasztott mélységélesség szépen elemeli a fiút a környezetből, a rágcsált fa átlós helyzete érdekesen oldja a centrális szerkesztést.
Ja, és a jegyzet is sokat segít az értelmezésben.
Üdv

beautifull pictures ! but I know it's like a human zoo...
cordialement,
dd
