Photographer's Note

I am back in the digital era, only 10 years ago. This is from Guwahati, the major city of Assam state in northeastern India. I have posted several photos from there before, but I always seem to find perfectly usable photos whenever I look through old files I thought I was finished with.

So looking at my Guwahati photos recently I easily picked out four that I found good enough to show here. Two photos today have a market stall theme, my next upload will have a textile theme. All of them are very ordinary street shots, which is probably why I earlier didn't think they would be sophisticated enough for TE.

The small states of remote northeastern India, connected with "mainland" India only by a narrow corridor, are populated mainly by ethnic minority groups related with the people of neighbouring countries such as Tibet or Burma. This lady and her son obviously belong to one such minority group, although I have no idea which one.

I think that when taking this photo I was mainly attracted by how very neatly the fruit was displayed in that stall. See how the grapes and bananas are used like ornaments. I only had to wait for someone to fill the foreground.

Here is a larger version.

The WS shows a more ordinary vegetable stall, and a lady in green.
