Photographer's Note

Agrasen ki Baoli is a grand stepwell, close to the central business district of Delhi. It is popularly believed to have been first constructed by the mythical Maharaja Agrasen, the founding father of north India's mercantile clans. While that legend is hard to verify, we do know that the present day Baoli dates to a renovation of an older structure in the 14th century. It remains a quiet and curious place, with its depth and age offering a dramatic contrast to the tall skyscrapers around it. While it's become popular with the instagram generation, time your visit right and you'll find it all to yourself - and maybe a few hundred pigeons.
