Fantastic action shot, Henk - very well done. It really conveys the sense of drama and danger very well. Composition is superb, colours too. I really don't like this so-called "sport" but I like your shot very much. BTW : If I'd taken this shot I don't think I'd be admitting that I'd had to take it blindly :)

Every pixel of this photo is full of dramatic, action.
The motion blurr, the diagonal formed by the bodies on the ground and the bull;
the mass of "pressed" people luckily wearing all white shirts, opposite to the other ones, in coloured shirts;
the different directions of the heads, but all looking to the bull

Taken blindly or not, an excelent action shot, Henk.
We all need sometimes a bit luck...

Henk, dit is een fantasties shot, bij al deze snelle bewegingen met de camera boven uw hoofd, is er verwonderlijk zo scherpe foto te maken met zeer mooie kleuren, en weten dat de prijs voor de winnaar een T shirt is, hier krijg men de bevolking niet meer buiten voor het honderd vouwdige. Henk is deze foto gemaakt met een digitale camera of in gescand?

Ik dacht bull fights enkel in spanje en Zuid-Amerika plaatsvonden. Dank je Henk om mij op het tegendeel te wijzen. Nogal een eigenaardig verhaal; ik zie mezelf dit nog niet doen voor een T-shirt...
De "boven je hoofd schieten"-techniek heb ik ook wel al eens uit noodzaak moeten toepassen en soms geeft dit wel een mooi resultaat, zoals hier. Het geeft het gevoel alsof je dit van op een tribune volgt. Ondanks de bewegende beelden, heb je alles toch mooi scherp op je beeld gekregen. Strijdlust en schrik wisselen mekaar hier goed af en dat is heel goed te zijn bij de mensen.

The picture is great! You can see action here! movement, strenght and also a folkloric activity of the people of Madurai.

We have similar traditions here in Py regarding bull taming, I hope I can participate soon in an event to post picts.

this kind of bull-fight cum chasing is common in south india. one can relate to the more publicised Spanish versions (i can remember one from Sevilla) often seen in TV channels like NatGeo or Discovery!

Henk, I don't think I've come across your work before, but I have to say this picture is absolutely amazing. It's incredible that you say it was a "blind" shot. To see so much action in a picture is fantastic. The crowd frames the shot well and all eyes lead to the bullfighter as the point of focus. A stunning photo.

Hi Henk ! what a fantastic description , if i had only read it without any image , just following your literary path and allowing my imagination fly , it would have been so so vibrating , but in this case the feeling's reached up to a higher point with that image , that sequence of movement , tension , buzz , expressions , colour , detail and ...infinite . it is a gift to look at your work , a really pleasure . We tried to capture similar pictures from San Fermin "encierros" with similar connotations but it was difficut to get a successful result in sharpening and expressiveness
