The Jetsons are Japanese Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is the National Art Center located in the hip and chic Roppongi area and Japan's first national art museum without a permanent collection.

Opened in 2007, this is the largest exhibition space in Japan, designed by architect, Kisho Kurokawa. It's an all-curvy glass building of daring and sophisticated beauty.

It offers a very impressive view from the outside, but once inside, the pièces de résistance are two four-story high fabulous conic shapes, one for a café, the other for a restaurant, throning in the middle of the lobby from above. It looks very futuristic, almost like in the Jetsons, only better.

For those who don't know about the Jetsons, it's a naive cartoon from Hanna Barbara made in the 60's, about a family living in the future. It's like the Flinstones, but the other way around... Well, have a look at the workshop if you want to get the idea... :-P)

It looks that it is a real amazing building, but what I like from this picture is the light handling on it, really like it.

Bonjour André,

Je ne connaissais pas cette construction mais elle me semble un beau sujet de photo architecturale.
Ton point de vue permet d exploiter les courbes des verrieres et le cone. L exposition froide nous place dans une ambiance futuriste et la lumiere diffuse souligne bien les lignes.
Une photo tres graphique et bien futuriste.

You have evoked a distant memory here, I used to love the cartoons in the 1990s. Long time ago now.

What a cheeky title you have, very appropriate though accompanying an equally beautiful shot.

Hello André,

Un petit break dans ta série de portrait pour passer à un peu d'architecture. Un bâtiment étonnant dont l'architecture colle à l'usage qui en est fait. Ce musée doit être fabuleux à visiter. J'aime bien ton cadrage qui donne une très bonne idée de la taille et du graphisme de l'intérieur.

this msut be an astonishing building to visit.
The black shape and concrete shape on top and on the right are beautiful in contrast to alle hte linses of the glass facade of this building.
Strong composition!!

I've never been to Japan but my impression is that of a country that is years ahead in the future.

je suis stupéfait de cette architecture et tu as su la restituer admirablement avec en plus une justesse dans l'exposition qui m'impressionne, en particulier dans la gestion des hautes lumières
