Photographer's Note

December mornings are cold in Banawe, Ifugao. But nothing compares to how the Tappia Falls' icy, thundering waters get into your skin. The 3-story (or so)-tall falling waters are so secluded, you have to spend about 4 hours just to get there from Battad. Again, you need strong knees.

Some locals tell of a story where a foreign tourist hiked all the way from Banawe (that's about 40 km!), went straight up to Tappia, and took a dive. Later, his body was floating motionless. Heart attack and muscle contractions, they say.

Taken nearly 1:00 in the afternoon. Mist sprays all around, I was almost afraid to take out the camera from my bag. Scanned using HP PSC 1210 at 600 res, cropped and adjusted for contrast.
