This Palace has an area of 218,400 sq. meters and is surrounded by walls built in 1783.
The 4 walls totals 1900 meters.
Within these walls are situated government offices and the Chapel Royal of the Emerald Buddha besides the royal residences.
When Siam restored law and order after fall of Ayutthaya the monarch lived in Thonburi on the other side of the river.
Rama I, immediately on ascending the Throne, moved the center of administration to this side of Chao Phraya; and after erecting public monuments such as fortifications and monasteries, built a palace to serve not only as residence but also his offices (only one remains in the palace walls).
This Palace came to be known as the Grand Palace.

Scanned negative film and "doctored" sky.

Nice and neat image. The azur sky makes a good background for these heavily ornemented roofs.

All the best,

Emmanuel

Nice shot Robert, clean & crisp. The chofas really stand out as does the nice soft colours. The foliage also adds to the shot

Hi Robert,
Beautiful capture of these lovely palaces seen in all their intricate exceptional details. Wonderfully clear colors to this fine image.
Regards, Tom

Bonjour Robert!
MarieLouise.
