Photographer's Note

Early morning shot at Lang Co Bay and a lone fisherman in his coracle - a true basket boat, a very common sight in the coast of Vietnam. I should imagine it takes some considerable skill to maneuver the craft.

Interesting to note that coracles remain in widespread use and continue to serve a significant economic function in Vietnam. The coracles come in many sizes and normally are carried aboard larger fishing boats, where they are used as tenders and for handling nets.

They are also used for fishing in shallow water which is normally less than a mile offshore as shown in this picture.
