Picture taken amongst a huge crowd gathered around this geisha and a maiko (maiko=geisha in becoming/training) in Gion, Kyoto. It's amazing how the tourists acted like they saw a rare creature and everybody wanted a piece of it, showing no respect and stepping on each other to take a picture with this exotic creature, and I was one of them.
The maiko picture will follow.

When somebody's tradition becomes a tourist spectacle then yes, it is good to question and critique why such culture has acquired such popular culture currency. She doesn't look happy at all. A useful picture to reflect on.

WOW WOW WOW I think I seen this Maiko last december in Kyoto, during a wonderful show at the theatre, she was one of two Maiko who dancing, and me too show her photo on TE ( http://it.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=3&p=818202 )
Seem this young Maiko beginning very famous!
