CBDR = Constant Bearing, Decreasing Range...in other words, a collision course. This is an "all-purpose" bridge, allowing trucks, trains, and pedestrians (if the latter are extremely careful) to cross between Sixaola, Costa Rica and Changuinola, Panama. Every 50 m or so there's a little opening in the fence to allow pedestrians to escape the oncoming vehicles. But you gotta run sometimes! The problem is, there are huge gaps in the wooden planking...and, should you fall through, you drop about 65m into a river! The bridge is in deplorable condition, and it's only a question of time before one of these 18-wheelers plummets!
Pura Vida!
P.S. Don't forget to tell the border guard "Necessito un sello en mi passaporte!" before you cross (He won't even ask you). Otherwise, it could be hours (days?) before you're allowed back in! |

ha, i remember going over that bridge. you've captured the ominous-ness of it all quite well. too bad there weren't more people around, as i recall that's not such a quiet border post. excellent photo.
