Best TE friends.
Today I was with my wife in Antwerp for shopping, a pity little bit bad weather
I saw this image with the Cathedral of Our Lady in background.
Maybe not the excellent cloudy sky, I have done my best for a nice image of the this part of the city.
I wait on you reply!

The history of the largest church in the Netherlands began in 1124. An old chapel on this site became the parish church, which resulted in a substantial new building in the Romanesque style. In 1352 work began to replace that church with the present-day Gothic church. It was 170 years before it looked as does today. But at a time when Antwerp was the European city, Emperor Charles V was planning a story without an end. Though the church - which was 119 metres long, had a roof measuring more than one hectare and 128 windows - could be considered one of the greatest on earth, he still wished to extend it very substantially, making it worthy of a world fair. The ground plan of the streets on the east side of the church is still determined by that great dream, though water damage resulting from a disastrous fire in 1533 prevented its realization.
Although the size of the church didn’t increase, its hierarchical position did. For a few years later when the bishopric of Antwerpen was established, it was chosen as the church for the episcopal see. It was this ‘bishop’s throne’ which made it a ‘cathedral’, though its status made little impression on the Calvinist organisers of the iconoclasms (1566 and 1581). With the return to Catholicism in 1585, a new art-loving wind began to blow in the spirit of the Counter-Reformation: the baroque style.
In the French period, around 1800, the church was completely ransacked and even threatened with demolition! Fortunately the city architect J. Blom managed to keep those plans on ice indefinitely. In the nineteenth century the interior was totally refurbished: old furnishings were purchased from monastery churches which had been closed, new commissions were ordered in neoclassical and later predominately neo-gothic style (the monumental choir stalls, several side altars, draught screens). In 1961 Antwerp became an independent diocese again. The Provincial Government of Antwerp decided that the cathedral should be thoroughly restored; a gigantic project which continued even after 1993 (when Antwerp was the Cultural Capital of Europe).

I hope that you like it.

jhm.

Hallo John,
Groet, Henk

Hello John,
Nice city and nice composition. The sky is also beautiful and the sharpness of the photo is excellent,
Best regards,
Tulay

Hello John.
High sharpened and colorful shot.
An excellent perspective. I like overall the two human figures giving vivacity to the picture.
Well done.
Best regards.
Bobo.

Hi John - I believe the sky is excellent actually, for its has shapes that lead to the tower, which is also the place to which my eye is led by the perspective on the bottom of the shot. Regards, Daniel

Hi John

Good colour, sharpness, lighting & contrast. Excellent graphism of the clock tower against the dramatic sky. Good pp work. Tfs!

Hello John,
A very good capture of this lovely old square. An excellent point of view, which makes good use of the lead-lines offered by the cobble stones. The couple on the right add to the atmosphere and give a sense of scale. Pleasing soft, natural colours and very good clarity. I would be inclined to try and correct the perspective; the buildings on the outside edge are noticeably falling inwards.

Hello!
Excellent composition, beautiful architecture, splendid colours and good sharpness.
Interesting note.
Greetings
Tadeusz

hi john,
Nice colours and sharpness as the image is properly composed. Thanks.

Hi John,

I think the sky is perfect for this shot, a blue one wouldn't be better, it's in tone with stone colours but the gorgeous architecture contrasts perfectly from it... thanks form sharing.

Have a nice sunday
Günther

hi John
great wide view of this place, full of details, interesting choice of framing

Hello John,

This is a fine composition where the classic architecture stands out so well!
The large cobble-stoned plaza makes a fine lead to the buildings, and I admire the pin sharp details...
The few spots of bright colours add life to the scene!

Greetings,
Pablo -

I really think the sky is pretty good with the light coming from the cathedral. It is god’s light!!!
The square looks very quite for a Saturday but may be it is not a normal shopping day in Holland. Anyway, the wide angle lens worked perfectly and you got perfect sharpness and good colours. Well done.
Antonio

Hi John

The wide angle point of view of this area of Antwerp is allowing us to see the details and colors of the architecture of the different buildings of this part of the city. The statue in the foreground and the cathedral in the background are attracting our eyes. The presence of people has an effect of scale. THe cloudy sky is filtering the light giving a good contrast between the colors. Hav a nice sunday.

Pierre

Dag John,

Hi John,
superb shot of this nice skyline, I like the wide angle effect and of course this drastic sky, it looks awesome!

Dag John,

groeten,

Luc.

John,

Hi John,

Nice view of Antwerp! It's interesting to see how it could almost look like the market in Lille if that amazingly big church would not be in the composition :-).
I like market places like this. Just sitting there and life will pass by without doing anything yourself :-). Thanks for sharing!

Goedemorgen John,
Mooi fotowerk, bedankt!

Hi John
The cloudy sky has created some very nice play in the sky and certainly has done away with those shadows that are hard to overcome especially with distant captures. As a result the colors are homogeneous and the details sharp. I like the pattern of the cobbled street, too

Hello John,
a good perspective with an interesting view of large square.
Perhaps, if it were possible, I would have chosen a POV a little more at right side to give a better depht to the picture and in order not to overlap the fountain to the bell tower.

Hello John,

Antwerp is one city I have always wanted to see, and maybe one day I will see it. In this expansive photograph, you show a most salient view of the city, and provide a very informative note to inform us all. The architecture in Belgium must be quite similar to that in Holland, where I have visited (Amsterdam).

John,

I think the wide angle is just right for this square, it gives a tremendous perception of space. I too like the clouds, it doesn't matter that the weather was't the best, they ive a feeling of movement and yet the square and the people in it are perfectly still... a nice contrast.

Nice colors and good frame. Thank you for your instructive note.

This picture gives an excellent impression of Grotte Markt, and the very wide open space of the place, which is unfortunatly very often crowded with people. You were very lucky to have just two tourists at that moment.
And the position of Brabo is funny, as if he was try to touch the belfry.

How I love to see pictures of Antwerp! It's the city I stayed for more than 2 years & I do not remember how many times I visited this square. Lovely use of wide angle, with the magnificent cathedral & the Brabo statue all being there in prominence as are the guild houses in the BG. Possibly I might have wished a POV a few steps to your right to have Brabo clear from the cathedral. Like a lot the graphic effect of the cobblestones. Fine work John!
Best Regards

Hi John,
Nice pov on this interesting architecture, well framed with lines effect in the foreground, interesting perspective.

Dag John,
