Dubrovnik is on UNESCO-s List of Cultural Heritage.
This ancient town, surrounded by ramparts and fortresses, is a treasure of architectural and cultural masterpieces, very well preserved over the centuries.
It was founded by a group of refugees from Epidaurum in the 7th century. They established their settlement at the island and named it Laus. Opposite of this location, at the foot of surrounding mountain, Slavs developed their own settlement under the name of Dubrovnik, named after "dub" a type of oak wood. The settlements were separated by a channel which was filled in 12th century, and since than the two settlements have been united.
Today Dubrovnik is probably the main cultural and architectural attraction on Adriatic and is visited by herds of tourists taking part of boat cruises. I visited it in winter-time in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
No manipulation with the light which is the original and impressive "Adriatic winter-blue".
