Saksun at the Faroe Island
Before you visit such a place as the Faroe Islands out in the North Atlantic you make a plan of what to see and which places to visit. And of course the little church at Saksun is on the list. Probably the most photographed motif at the islands.
And there you are on the last day of September. Nobody around, the fog is drifting in the back and the rain is pouring down.

But then you also have the opportunity I think to have a kind of personal photo variant from the place - at least a good contrast to being there a day when the sun shines and the place is crowded with visitors.

You get a feeling of how it must have been when the first settlers arrived in their small ships around 1000 years ago, in the little inlet in the back there, finding shelter from the big ocean and decided this was surely a fine place to live. The inlet formed a good deep natural harbour, until a storm blocked the inlet with sand. This caused the river that used to run into the inlet to form a freshwater lake where the inlet used to be.

Strange also to learn that the Church was originally built in Tjornuvik, but in 1858 it was disassembled, carried over the mountains and reassembled in Saksun. Of course with a population of 34 souls they sure needed a church at the place.

All your photograph have a very nice good quality, this find I everytime back in your splendid pictures.
You chose a very clarity image, happy that you middle of the picture get the church or chapel a nice clarity.

Hello Jack,

Un endroit perdu dans le brouillard. Il doit faire bon respirer l'air du large depuis ce promontoire. L'église fait face à la mer. Une architecture très curieuse.
Une photographie rafraîchissante.

Dear Jack.

I don't want to talk about pov and other "technical" aspects of this superb photo, because it would be more than funny to write to someone who knows that much better then most of us.

But I must say that compo and story that photo brings is very energic on the one hand, and calming and gentle on the other. At that feeling is something I like the most.

Difficult to imagine this place crowded with tourists. In these conditions it looks so remote and peaceful, far from anywhere. The grey clouds and wet weather give a pleasing moody atmosphere.

Hi, Jack. A view that shows us the rugged landscape of the Faroe Islands. The weather also seems to be quite rough over there. In spite of the grey skies, the contrasts are good. The church is well placed in the composition and its white walls make it stand out.

Excellent shot. I love the atmosphere and wonderful picture taken in a weather and light that in most situations should not be considered very good but here it work very well. The POV is also very well chosen and the diagonal lines are part of the attractiveness of the picture. TFS and have a nice evening!

Hi Jack
Despite their beauty, there are few good pictures of Faroe.
This is one of them: nice POV and nice landscape.
We can see the typical weather of Faroe and the typical texture of rocks and moss. Only lacks the typical green (I like so much), but it was not in summer...
