Rocca Albornoziana Courtyard of Honor
The Cortile d'Onore is surrounded by a double loggia built, according to Vasari, on a project by Bernardo Rossellino, called to Spoleto by Pope Niccolò V. The double order of the loggia is made of brick and rests on octagonal section pillars with simple bases and stone capitals, while the round arches, with the exception of the pointed arches of the stairway, are underlined by a ring nut also shaped in brick. The presence of the loggia plane determines a pleasant contrast in the residential courtyard between the gray to¬no of the stone curtain wall and the bright tone of the brick landscaping.
In the center of the courtyard there is a hexagonal well which surmounts a large cistern used for collecting rainwater.
