Photographer’s Note

Early light falls on the bell tower and the Basilica of San Paolo one of the most recognisable basilicas in the city with hundreds of such places. The history of this place goes back almost 2000 years.

Rome, the "Eternal City," has been a sacred place and internationally important city since ancient times. Rome's history extends nearly 2,800 years, during which time it has been the seat of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire, the Papal States, the Kingdom of Italy and the Italian Republic. The first known temple in Rome was built around 575 BC. A Jewish community was established in Rome in 161 BC and remains active today. Christians arrived in the 1st century AD, and Rome has been the center of Catholic Christianity ever since. Rome's abundance of ancient temples, synagogues, churches and shrines make it one of the best cities to explore the holy places of a variety of religious traditions.

Great colour in the basilica Murray. The trees just avoid being distracting by acting as good frames for the subject.

Murray,
This is a nicely composed shot using the dark trees to frame the scene. The angled lighting works well giving the photo areas of warm color and deep shadows. The tower leads the eye away from the center of the shot giving the photo a sense of direction.

Hi Murray,

The trees are framing well the basilica. The point of view is allowing me to see the details and colors of the San Paolo bell tower and of the basilica. It is clear and sharp. The afternoon light has a good effect on the colors of the basilica. Have a nice day.
