Romania: The Shoemakers' Tower Photo

The Shoemakers' Tower is located in the north-eastern part of Sighisoara (German:Schaessburg, Hungarian:Segesvár). It was mentioned in documents dating from the mid 16th century but it was totally rebuilt in 1650 being one of the recent towers of the town. It bears the influence of the Baroque architecture, being short, with a hexagonal base with sides of different lengths. It has a picturesque look due to its roof which resembles a pointy helmet and which bears on one side a small tower of observation.

non so perchè ma fin da piccolo seno sempre stato affascinato da questo tipo di architettura. Lo stile del tetto è piacevole, specialmente per quella piccola torretta in legno, la cui copertura riprende le forme del tetto della casa. La composizione è ben articolata, e, tutto sommato le automobili non disturbano più di tanto. Bella.

The tower itself is very nice but the area around seems to be a bit of a mess to say the least, even the cars are parked in a anarchic way. That being said, the highlights on the facades hint for pleasant warm sun and that makes me envious ;-)

Hello Attila,
Once again very original in your photos with this very curious tower well enhanced in the middle of your photo.
The mix of warm colours and the warm atmosphere coming out from your photo makes me think of an hot day in Romania when you passed there.
The cars parked all over the bottom part of the photo might bother some but not so much IMO as they do not cut over the view to some important parts of the photo.

sai che a me le torri mi piacciono molto, questa in particolare ha attirato la mia attenzione per la straordinaria architettura e per il contesto dove e' inserita. la foto come al solito e' perfetta anche se a me non piacciono queste macchine in primo piamo, era meglio una carrozza con dei cavalli......

Hát, ez nagyon lehangoló. Úgy hallottam, nagy felújítások kezdődtek arra felé, de szegény Varga-torony talán még romlott is azóta, hogy láttam vagy 15 éve. Az elhanyagolt, csiricsáréra rondított környezet sem mindjárt idézi fel, hogy Kelet-Európa egyik legérdekesebb, legértékesebb épületegyüttesénél jártál. Remélem, a teljes pusztulás előtt valaki csak észbe kap, és az utódokra nemcsak a kép marad.

Talán nem ez az utca Segesvár legismertebb része, ezért különösen is jó, hogy bemutatod nekünk.
Jó kép, remekül érzékelteti a (bel)város ódon hangulatát. Igaz, nagyon le van robbanva, az is igaz, hogy már újítják, egyszer csak lesz belőle valami.
