Photographer's Note

Exactly 240 years ago, on August 19, 1772, king Gustav III seized power from the government in a coup d'état, ending the Age of Liberty and venturing into a campaign to restore royal autocracy which was completed by the Union and Security Act in 1789, sweeping away most of the last pretences of Riksdag rule.

This event was commemorated by the Westgoth Gustavians (Westgiöta Gustavianer), a society of reenactors at the Gunnebo Castle.
