Photographer's Note

This series of photographs is offering a short journey around Switzerland, a landlocked country geographically divided between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura, bordering with France, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Italy.
Switzerland (the Swiss Confederation) consists of following 20 cantons (states) and 6 half-cantons: Aargau, Appenzell Ausserhoden*, Appenzell Innerhoden*, Basel Landschaft*, Basel Stadt*, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Glarus, Graubünden, Jura, Lucerne, Neuchatel, Nidwalden*, Obwalden*, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Solothurn, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Ticino, Uri, Valais, Vaud, Zug and Zurich (*=half-canton).
From each canton I’ll post 2 photos and from each half-canton 1 photo, total 46 photographs.

Sankt Gallen

The Canton of St. Gallen is located in the north east of. It is bounded to the north by Lake Constance. To the east lies the Rhine valley. Over the Rhine are Austria and Liechtenstein. To the south it is bounded by the cantons Graubünden , Glarus and Schwytz. To the west lie the cantons of Zürich and Thurgau. The capital city is St. Gallen.

This photo was taken from the ship sailing on the Lake Walensee (or Lake Walen) with view to the southern shore with the town of Quarten. In the background a part of A3 Highway from St. Gallen to Zurich.
Quarten is an old town which was first mentioned about 840 as in Quarto with mild winter temperatures influenced by warm Walensee climate (warmth from the lake and the Föhn wind).

The Walensee is one of the larger lakes and the deepest lake (105m deep) in Switzerland, for about 2/3 of its surface in the Canton of St. Gallen and for 1/3 in the Canton of Glarus. The three main rivers leading to this lake are the Seez, Murgbach, and Linth. The latter continues its course from Walensee to Lake Zurich.

Quarten is located 200km east from Bern, 78km southeast from Zurich and 104km south from St. Gallen.

Allô Miro!
Une magnifique photo de campagne avec le village au bord de l,eau et des maisons ici et là à travers une belle verdure. bel éclairage et superbes couleurs. Dommage que le voilier soit pas placé au tiers mais ça n'enlève rien à la beauté de la photo.

Another great landscape image from your collection.The green slope of hill ending up the at the deep blue lake creates awesome atmosphere.No wonder why Switzerland is considered to be so beautiful in the world.Good sharpness and exceptional framing.

A wonderful picture, but one small advice, in the left corner see I the sailboat, never a boat cutting on these way.
Nevertheless a wonderful picture.
Wonderful picture excellent sharpness and clarity.

Stunning image. The colour is really the first thing I noticed, very bright and vivid, especially the contrast between the blue sea and the deep green hills with the wooden houses pops up from the ground. The sailing boat is a highlight.

Switzerland is a superb country, that fits so much in to a very small size. It was great visiting this year and seeing what the country had to offer. I like the rich green hills here, the collection of houses and the rail line passing behind. Delightful place to live.
