Just came back from great trip to Avebury, where I've been several times already, however I've never had such a great light conditions as 3 days ago. Beautiful stormy cloud in the background with great front light. This shot was taken early evening, therefore the colors are very strong and deep. I didnt help it in PP :)

--------------------------------------------------
One of the most important megalithic monuments in
Europe is spread over a vast area at Avebury, much of it under Trust protection. The great stone circle, encompassing part of the village of Avebury, is enclosed by a ditch and external bank and approached by an avenue of stones. Many of the stones were re-erected in the 1930s by the archaeologist Alexander Keiller. The site museum, including an exhibition in the 17th-century thatched threshing barn, presents the archaeological story. Finds from the site and interactive and audio-visual displays are used to tell the story of the monuments and the people who have helped to reveal their past. Nearby, Windmill Hill was once the site of an important Neolithic settlement and has several well-preserved Bronze Age burial mounds. West of Avebury, the Iron Age earthwork of Oldbury Castle crowns Cherhill Down, along with the conspicuous Lansdowne Monument. With the spectacular folds of Calstone Coombes, this area of open downland provides wonderful walking opportunities.

One of my favourite places - you were indeed fortunate to get such dramatic weather Lucie - for me you've made this a little too punchy - it looks too unnatural and personally i'd pull back on the contrast here for a more natural look - my big smile is more for what I can see within this image than for your chosen presentation but very nicely seen and composed for effect ...I wonder if people realise how big these stones are....but then I spotted your sheep which I hadn't see at first.

best wishes Kev

It’s really incredible the weather conditions you always present in your photos. You must be the luckiest photographer on earth. And in my humble opinion, one of the best too. That intense dark menacing top stripe is amazing. I am sure that the remaining warm golden tones that cover the entire frame are a clear consequence of that. Love the rough feel of these massive stones. The inclusion of the little sheep is crucial here. Without it, we would be completely lost trying to figuring out the real size of those rocky formations. I like the composition very much; the horizon across the bottom third, that middle layer with that deep blue clouded sky and the shadows you so well recorded in the floor. I would prefer to see the low lit section of the rocks with a little less contrast but I understand your choice here. Very good indeed.

Hello Lucie,
I've been there before but have not seen such a dramatic sky and lighting - it's usually overcast & dull. The textures and colors you've here are of high contrast, producing a great atmosphere. Good placement of the three stones. Nice PP treatment. I enjoy this a lot, thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Cheuk Hin

Lucie,

Excellent shot. The colours are very good, warm on the rocks, and dramatic cool blues in the sky. The big dark navy/purple cloud covering the top on the image balances the overall image well. The presence of that one sheep tells us how large these rocks really are. Did you have to wait long for him to show up? ;-)

Great shot overall - thanks!

Hi Lucie,
Marvelous shot with blue&black and cloudy sky. A high quality image. Colors, light, and composition are excellent.
Congratulations.
Best wishes...
Ali Rıza

Hello, nice detail on the stones but the top part of the sky is too dark.

Ces trois pierres dissemblables chapotées par ce ciel noir forme un ensemble parfait.
Belle mise en perspective des trois roches et lumière d' apocalypse pour image très forte !

Wow! The skyis so incredibly dark that I had to look twice to make sure it was a cloud! This gives the shot a very dramatic look, with the huge contrast between the sunlit foreground and the dark background. The megaliths look like sculptures, with an obvious similarity to Henry Moore. Great work, as usual!

What a fantastic shot! Sometimes nature just offers the most amazing scenery and light, but being able to catch it is something else. Exposure, composition, and the SHEEP that gives scale, oh this is nice!
Thanks for being at the right place at the right time!

Hi Lucie,
i like very much your way to see trough the finder. The dramatic sky over the warmer stones. Just great.
Well done.
Regards,
Nick

Hi Lucie
Very nice colors here, despite of this shitty weather. I like the way you framed this pict including the lumb which give us the size of the rocks. Really well done.

Superb light and colors for this very beautiful photo.

Hi, Lucie. A well-composed shot with awesome light. The three standing stones form a nice triangle and the sheep gives us an idea of how tall they are.

Wow Lucie, awesome lighting and contrasts here. And those stormy clouds are so dramatic. Interesting scene, and having teh sheep gives us a good ideaof how bigthose rocks are. TFS

Hi Lucie,

You’re surely gifted to find those unusual and dramatic skies, seen throughout your gallery, but I’m sure there’s also work involved, as getting there more than once and chasing the prospective perfect clouds.

So you’ve nailed it here, in a strking fashion, where the front light create a tremendous effect. The contrast created by dark clouds and warm stones is highly esthetic and attractive. Very beautiful colour combination and detailed textures.

The white sniffing dog gives an idea about the proportion of these megaliths.

Great work!

André

Hi Lucie,
awesome shot that has everythis that a good capture needs to have.
Though, I have to agree with Kev - the upper portion with almost black cloud appears to be a wee bit over the top.
Nevermind, it's still a stunning shot!
Congratulations,
Robi

Serwus Lucie !
You know perfectly how to take an advantage of light conditions, and this is a fantastic proof. The sky is powerful as a background. The mounements would look inconspicuous if not a presence of the lost sheep in this landscape.
Best wishes,
Mat

Ahh, what a great atmosphere and well balanced composition. You have been there at the right time to capture this beautiful light.
Well done, Lucie. :)
