Photographer's Note

When I booked my balloon flight I was telling myself I was doing it just for the sake of photography (quite a sacrifice actually - at that point I was dead scared). But it turned out to be a fascinating experience in its own right.

You arrive at the assembly point in complete darkness and when the sky gets a little bit brighter you can see huge black rounded shapes rising from the ground. At dawn the balloons look rather drab until fire is blown into the domes and then, for a brief moment, they light up like colourful beacons. These two balloons remained alight both at the same time for a couple of seconds only.

I tried to convey the atmosphere of that take-off in this and the WS photos.
