Photographer's Note

A Turkish beach with a Japanese sounding name! I liked the unusually shaped tree here, blown to the right side by some ancient storm winds. It nicely frames the bg mountains. There have been several attempts to build multi story 5 star hotels on this beach but it is a primary nesting ground of the Mediterranean green and carretta turtles. The most recent proposal was a kitschy plan to build a hotel in the shape of a turtle, but that, too, was thankfully opposed by environmentalists and rejected by the Government. For the moment the beach remains closed to any development and the turtles can nest in peace. Access is either by boat from Dalyan or a dolmus (taxi truck) to Kaptan June's Hut, a small research museum and turtle hospital illustrating the plight of the endangered turtles and saving / rescuing injured turtles.
