Photographer's Note

A view from the hillside ruins of Sagalassos looking down towards the red tiled roofs of the town of Aglasun at top left in the valley. Perhaps these were the foundations of residential houses, now over run with grass. The city was destroyed by an earthquake in 518 AD & again around 650 AD. It was never rebuilt after that 2nd quake. From 1990, Sagalassos, a major tourist site 100 km north of Antalya, became a major excavation project led by Marc Waelkens of the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. More info here:
