Photographer's Note

Today - Monday, November 27th, 2006 - the lobster season opened here. { Sou'West Nova }. That event is locally known as "dump day", as the lobster-traps are "dumped" in the ocean...

All the boats from Sambro were out before the crack of dawn. Many boats made several runs; i.e. loading traps at the wharfs, racing to the the best spots, dropping the traps, and booting it back for more traps...

This morning there was still some lingering greyness... Which makes this shot interesting as the boat in the photo - empty now - is called "Dusty Dawn"...

The young fella on the stern is taking a breather while the skipper is bringing her in for the next bunch of traps...

The dark fir on the right side is on Bull Point, which guards the entry to the inner Sambro harbour.

Floats for the lobster-traps can be seen dotting the entite Sambro Harbour area. The fishermen don't like dropping their traps in the channels, as bigger fishing trawlers - like the tide - still come and go...

The lobsters caught here will be ready for Christmas in Paris.
