Photographer's Note

"When the still sea conspires an armor..."

The Laguna de Coyuca is a large lake just west of Acapulco. It features in many American classic movies, such as The African Queen and Rambo 2, and also in some of the early Tarzan movies, the main reason probably being that it is just a short ride away from Johnny Weismuller's love shack at the - still fantastic - Flamingos Hotel.

(Afterthought #1: OK, Rambo 2 isn't really a classic movie, is it?)

The Horse Latitudes are the subtropical latitudes between 30 and 35 degrees both north and south. This region is an area which receives little precipitation and has variable winds mixed with calm. The consistently warm, dry conditions of the horse latitudes also contribute to the existence of temperate deserts, such as the Sahara Desert in Africa, the southwestern United States and northern Mexico.

(Afterthought #2: The Coyuca lagoon is a bit south of the horse latitudes, actually, but I couldn't really think of a song with a white horse in the title and Id didn't want to go for "A horse with no name".)

dedicated to all true sailors!
