Summer Evening in Newark

After our visit to Annapolis, we continued our journey: first waiting for almost two hours at in the queues at the toll booths for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and then driving north through Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey to Newark. During our previous visits to New York City, we had always stayed in Brooklyn, but this time (also because we had a car with us this time) our hotel was at the other side of the Big Apple.

This photo was taken from the window of our room at the tenth floor of our hotel in downtown Newark. The park in the foreground is Military Park with Broad Street in the background. The white tower is part of the Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral. The background features some of the buildings belonging to Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey.

Newark is the largest city in New Jersey with about 285,000 inhabitants and it is also one of the oldest European cities in the U.S., founded in 1666 by Puritan settlers. Port Newark-Elizabeth, the busiest seaport on the American East coast, is also located here.
