Photographer's Note

During my brief time in Chaco Canyon National Park there were a series of afternoon thunderstorms, and rather than being smart and hiding out in a tent or something until they passed, I decided to go try to get some photos. I ended up shielding my camera from rain as best as possible with my rain jacket (which, in turn, meant that I got soaked), listening to the lighting strikes get closer and closer until I eventually gave up and ran back to my car. Since it was the afternoon, I couldn't get a very long exposure time (though I cranked up the aperture and had a polarizing filter on), so it was tough to capture a decent lighting strike. This is one of the ones that actually turned out OK, and I'm pretty happy with it.
