Photographer's Note

This was taken during the very short time there is some sun. The golden hour lasts about 4 hours. Savoonga is on an island in the Bering Sea and lies about 36 miles from Russia. The people there are called Siberian Yupik and are Inuit but speak a language which is only spoken on the island and in Russia. This housing was built and given to the Yupik by the government and it is occupied. The housing was built in the 1950's and no one has maintained it. The government is building new housing which cost about 300,000 each to build in this very remote place. The housing is free to the native peoples.
