Waterfront Place, Brisbane
Is it the glass building that is beautiful, or is the beauty merely the reflection of its surrounds?
After several requests from viewers of my gallery, I have posted, and will continue to post a few shots of the buildings of Brisbane. This is Waterfront place, the largest of the ‘glass towers’ that dominate the waterfront. This tower features its own riverside dock and borders the lush botanical gardens. Built in 1988, this tower apparently needed to have all of its windows X-rayed due to cracks which would shatter the huge panes and allow them to fall onto the gardens below, and was thankfully quickly fixed. Depending on the weather, this building appears gold, black, grey or the usual blue. A pretty building, I liked the contrast between new and old. |

Hi Matthew,
It is a beautiful building alright ... but what actually caught my interest is the inclusion of the old building, which set the standard of this compo to another level. The old building not only gave a historical contrast (old & new) to the scene but also added scale to the taller building. Brilliantly captured ... excellent work! Tfs.
Cheers,
Renier
Hi Matthew,
Stunning vertical composition with an all blue picture. But there are so many different tones of blue that it becomes very interesting to watch. Absolute great composed with that little building in front, gives perfect scaling to the large glass building...perfect.
Regards, Henk
G'day Matthew.
Very beautiful colour and contrast. That goes for the little old building also, as you say. Brissy is a beautiful place. Well captured.
Best regards, Steve.
Hi Matthew,
Wonderful all in blue colour, the blue colour architectutes and the blue blue sky without white cloud! Good pov to shoot the tall building look magnificient, and the partly of the old architecture at the corner, good contrast, distinct iamge.

Hey Matthew,
The composition makes a very good presentation of how varied and diverse architecture surrounds our modern city.
Waterfront Place may have its surrounding seem very small or very unimportant, by comparison but the solidity of the architectural 'character' of the old structure below it seem to have 'full of pride' in itself. This what makes an amazing cityscape, the soaring modern skyscraper with surrounding 'heritage' landmarks makes it all worth appreciating.
"Is it the glass building that is beautiful, or is the beauty merely the reflection of its surrounding?" Both I guess, a beautiful building having unsightly reflection can be viewed as a 'mirror-image' not giving a pleasant facade. A nice surrounding helps accentuate an existing structure which blends harmoniously in the area. In this image it views the difference between modernism and the classic lines. Superb shot, sharpness and saturation well managed!
Btw are you related to Ashton Kutcher? the funny guy at That 70's Show? Dude this is what I call 'mirror-image' ;)
All the best!

Hi Matt. superb shot of this glass architecture in Brisbane. I especially like your POV and the various blues. Good work. Murray.
PS Many thanks for naming the HK building too.
