A peaceful rainforest setting on the Kokoda Track, Papua New Guinea. This photo was taken at about the midpoint of the Kokoda Track - just north of the village Naduri. Patrick Lindsay described this area as "A rare natural wonderland".

In 1942 the Kokoda Track was the battleground of one of the bloodiest campaigns in WW2 and it was here that young Australian Diggers repelled a much larger and better equipped Japanese Army. The Kokoda Track was difficult to conquer as neither side could maintain a supply line over its 96km length. 600 Australians and 3000 Japanese lost their lives here.

Today this challenging trek is undertaken by several thousand Australians each year - they pay homage to the Diggers and to the PNG Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels who supported them.

I thought it appropriate to post this peaceful photo on Anzac Day(April 25) when New Zealanders and Australians remember those who made the supreme sacrifice.

Hey Marlene,

Thanks for bringing the jungle into the comfort of my home, though I`d change it any time, for an environment shown in this photo.
Nicely done, I think it really brings out the essence of it. Lovely.

Enjoy.

Hi Marlene
This is a great idea for a post on Anzac Day and a lovely photo! It looks very hot and steamy in the tropical jungle. It must have been a real test of endurance!
Regards
Lyndall

It really is a wonderland! Too bad for the WWII story, I feel so sorry for the lost life! Anyway your photo is the main issue here!!! The fog gives the scene mysticism, true jungle! Only if you could add sound on this photo (but that would be named a video, LOL). Well done.

Best regards,
Slavko

Hello Marlene,
I like this shot "in green"; I can almost feel the atmosphere of the place, feel the leaves and breathe the air... looks like it rained before?
best regards,
Elena
