It’s a man’s man's world

It’s no secret that Brazil has sharp social contrasts, it's layered and to some extent even segregated. But there’s some disagreement about this last element. And happily enough there is social mobility. Brazil’s president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is maybe a shining example of that. He once started out as a shoe shine boy, the same profession as the friendly man here, who permitted me to take some pics in his communal shoe shine stand in downtown Sampa, near the Stock Market displayed here.
Although I was not in Sampa on business, my social researcher’s heart leapt when I saw this scene and then some more when I examined this shot on my roadwarrior back in the hotel. Symbolism galore with a nice dash of humour. Enjoy!

It’s man’s man’s world is an album and signature song title of ‘godfather of soul’ James Brown. Released in 1966 on King.

PCS3 tech: altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and did a gentle USM again.
