This picture was taken of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. The image is to Corcovado Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer.
The Corcovado is one of the hills of Rio de Janeiro, is 710 meters tall and is in the Tijuca National Park. The Corcovado located to the west of the city centre, but still can be seen from long distances.
The Christ the Redeemer is one of the main symbols of the country and offers a panoramic view inside the city of Rio de Janeiro. In 2003 the works were completed the installation of lifts and escalators in place. Before, we had to win 220 steps to enjoy the scenery. On July 7, 2007, the statue of Christ the Redeemer was elected in a vote of the New 7 Wonders of the World. The vote had the patronage of the UN, but without having an official nature.
The attraction of the most memorable of Corcovado hill is the statue of Christ the Redeemer that the crown and that attracts more than 300 thousand Brazilian and foreign visitors a year. The statue was inaugurated on 12 October/1931, is 38 meters tall and weighs 1,145 tons.
The top of the hill provides a panoramic view of the city center of Rio de Janeiro, the Mount of Sugar Loaf, the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, the beaches of Copacabana, the beaches of Ipanema, the hippodrome da Gavea, the beaches of Leblon, of Botafogo inlet, the Aterro do Flamengo, the Maracanã and several neighborhoods and shantytowns in areas south, north and centre of the city. It is recommended that visits to the peak of Corcovado are made on sunny days to avoid the clouds that often prevent views clear and unhindered.
