Photographer's Note

First, this one too was taken with my sister's camera, so I apologize for the quality.

The day before, I got to know some nice people from Utah and an Argentinian guy who had not made any plans on what to do in Colombia at all. So we went as a group to this village that my friend in Bogotá had recommended (my friend had to work that day, so she couldn't join). And what a peaceful little village! The first we did when arriving in Guatavita was to walk slowly towards the lake that we see here in this photo.

About the legend of Eldorado: The legend is said to come from this village. There is a lake a few kilometers north where the native Musica people used to do their ritual where the Zipa (El Dorado, or king), usually covered with a lot of gold, washed it off. Gold has been found on the bottom. Since the 16th century several people has made attempts to drain the lake. However, that lake was closed for renovation work when I was there, so I had to settle with this huge reservoir that buried the old town of Guatavita in the 1960s.
