Photographer’s Note
The idea for this photo, came to me when I saw an article in a newspaper. According to the newspaper, close to Santorini there is an underwater, active small volcano. This volcano was until some months ago 200 metres below sea surface. After some small explosions it has risen to a level just 17 metres below sea surface! It seems that in the future a new island will appear in the Greek Archipelago!
When I saw these rocks very close to Sarakiniko beach, I wanted to give the impression the they were just rising from the sea that very moment. So I lowered manually the ISO to 50, used a small aperture (f/22), a circular polarizer,an ND-8 (3-stop down) filter and a tripod for a 2 seconds exposure. Then, all I had to do is wait for a nice wave to come.

Kalispera Hercules.

Dear Hercules
You must love the see a lot and you most of the time manage to capture amazing pictures of the sea and cliffs like this one. It's simply a great shot of the force of the waves. Colors and contrast are bold and sharpness is perfect. Excellent work.
best regards

Hello Hercules!
Awesome picture and the special reason for that (in addition to all the other qualities of this photograph) is the shutter speed which allowed you to have those incredible effects with the waves!
TFS - congratulations!

Hi Hercules
Well done to get the shutter speed down. It does give the impression of a lift off or at least movement. Wonderful vibrant colours.

Not only you have a fine mastery of the means but also a vulcanic mind which erupts fantastic ideas like this one. As a sea lover I highly appreciate this impressive photo in which you show the power of nature and its wild beauty. A real masterpiece of this genre.
