Photographer’s Note

The idea for this photo, came to me when I saw an article in a newspaper. According to the newspaper, close to Santorini there is an underwater, active small volcano. This volcano was until some months ago 200 metres below sea surface. After some small explosions it has risen to a level just 17 metres below sea surface! It seems that in the future a new island will appear in the Greek Archipelago!

When I saw these rocks very close to Sarakiniko beach, I wanted to give the impression the they were just rising from the sea that very moment. So I lowered manually the ISO to 50, used a small aperture (f/22), a circular polarizer,an ND-8 (3-stop down) filter and a tripod for a 2 seconds exposure. Then, all I had to do is wait for a nice wave to come.
