Photographer’s Note
The opportunity to photograph a geisha is rather restricted to a couple of streets in Gion district. They usually go out to work at around 17h45 up to 18h30, so you have to be ready and alert, as they try to make themselves discreet and move fast to avoid gathering around them.
When they see photographers, most of the time they close their eyes, in order to make sure your photos will be worthless... :-(((
In this case, I was able to catch her with eyes opened, as she was walking in my direction. The fact that I kneeled down to shoot her make her crack a smile, but on the frames I did before and after this one, she was closing her eyes.
That's why I called this photo "Nano", because in some cases, it's the amount of time you have to shoot a geisha... or in this case, a geishy.

worth all your efforts!
you have successfully captured her megashyness through your given nanoseconds. but you were indeed ready for the interaction of the century. see, you even learned the time interval you can come across them...
a serene nocturnal atmosphere with a pleasant, dim light.
cheers,

Yves.

Beautiful shot Andre, and the patience and persistance pay off. That is special that she even crack a smile though not looking straight at you which serve me just fine, I actually like it better. It show here shyness and bashful with a timid smile. Very good quality in this early morning low light. The little hints of latern in the muted background is just enough to show us the authentic atmosphere of the location. My only minor negative comment, not of your fault. I wish there was lighter background behind her hair, just a little more to give it more definition than that hairline of light, it blended into the background unless I look so carefully.
Good night!

Hi Andre,
This photo is looking like a beautiful painting. Blur background is making this photo more nice. Traditional dress with the expressions of the lady is really remarkable. Congrats.

Very nice capture of the genuine geisha or maiko. Blurred lights at the both sides make her stand out splendidly. A rendition that seems to have reduced the number of colors like gif is interesting.
I thought you have shot her with a Nano-crystal-coated lens.

Oleeeeeeeeeeeeeee Mr Portrait!
What can I say? Excellent picture? Lovely colours? Impressive details? Great blurred background?
Well...I think the best I can say is that my next picture will be a tribute to a portrait's master...

Andre,
Definitely worthwhile effort!
The moment is almost magical with geisha's frozen smile & eyes slightly mischievous in otherwise impervious face! Simply fantastic!

Hi,
Amazing! You capture perfectly the gueixa's beauty and mistery. The light and focus on her expression is perfect and the shaloow dark bg offer a great contrast. Really amazing portrait, among the most beautiful in TE!

Flavia

Bravo.
Amicalement
