San Gimignano es un pequeño pueblo amurallado de origen medieval, erigido en lo alto de las Colinas de la Toscana, en Italia, se localiza a cerca de 35 minutos en auto al noroeste de la ciudad de Siena y cerca de la misma distancia al suroeste de la ciudad de Florencia. Este pueblo es muy famoso principalmente por su arquitectura medieval especialmente sus torres. En «centro histórico de San Gimignano» ha sido declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en el año 1990.

En los pueblos amurallados toscanos de la época medieval, las familias adineradas competían entre sí con la erección de torres entre más altas, se simbolizaba más poder y riqueza, a la vez las torres servían como hostales, fortalezas y claro, símbolos de prestigio. Debido a que San Gimignano se asienta en lo alto de una colina, desde el poblado se puede ver muy bien el horizonte a varios kilómetros de distancia, por lo que las vistas de la comarca toscana son encantadoras. En los tiempos medievales y del Renacimiento era un punto de pausa en la marcha de las peregrinaciones hacia Roma o el Vaticano.

A diferencia de otras ciudades como Bolonia o Florencia, en donde la mayoría de sus torres se vinieron abajo ya sea por guerras, catástrofes naturales o renovación urbana, San Gimignano ha logrado conservar cerca de 15 de sus torres de diferentes alturas que se han convertido en su símbolo internacional. La ciudad moderna se extiende hoy algunos kilómetros fuera de la muralla.

San Gimignano is a small medieval walled town, built atop the hills of Tuscany, in Italy, is located about 35 minutes drive northwest of the city of Siena and about the same distance southwest of the city of Florence. This town is very famous for its medieval architecture, especially its towers. In "San Gimignano's historic center" has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1990.

Tuscan walled towns in medieval times, wealthy families vied with each other with the erection of towers between higher symbolized more power and wealth, while the towers were used as hostels, strengths and clear status symbols. Because San Gimignano sits on top of a hill from the village you can see very well the horizon several miles away, so the views of the Tuscan region are charming. In medieval times and the Renaissance was a point of pause in the march of pilgrimages to Rome or the Vatican.

Unlike other cities like Bologna or Florence, where most of its towers collapsed either by wars, natural disasters or urban renewal, San Gimignano has managed to retain about 15 towers of different heights have become its international symbol. The modern city now stretches a few kilometers outside of the wall.

Hola Charo, mi amiga.

posso sentir história na foto que você nos apresenta. É, sem dúvida, um bela e antiga arquitetura. Você aproveitou bem o dia de sol e céu azul para uma bela imagem. O formato vertical cai muito bem aqui. Ótimas cores e brilho. Parabéns!

Bonsoir Charo,
La bâtisse apparaît très imposante avec ces minuscules piétons. L'architecture médiévale est prouvée par le choix des façades typiques de l'époque, et l'aspect défensif de l'ensemble. Bonne lumière, excellente netteté. Bravo.

bellissima composizione in verticale con un POV davvero ben studiato e realizzato.
L'inquadratura è perfetta per mostrarci al meglio questa bella architettura medievale.
Belli i colori, i contrasti e la presenza del volatile vicino alla torre.

A fine composition of this magnificent tower that has survived so many vicissitudes. The people give a good sense of scale, whilst the height is further emphasised by the use of the vertical format. The tones and textures in the old stones are beautifully rendered. Great accompanying note to put everything in context.

Good shot, like the single bird near the top of the tower, Always difficult to take a picture like this in good sun as the shadows can be sooooo deep.

You had difficult light to work with and the results means that the light is a bit uneven but effective - and a great city to visit.

Nicely done with the raven flying araound the tower.
(no tower should be without a raven or two). I like the inclusion of the people for scale. They also add an additional focal point of interest.

This is a well composed shot with the alleyway leading the eye into the scene. The areas of light and shadow creates excellent contrast for the scene. The angle of the shot works well adding depth to the scene. The blue sky provides nice contrast for the stone buildings.

I must have several views from this pov n my archives... good upwards prspective from there, you used a correct small aperture here and shooting speed is sufficient but the background tower doesn't look so sharp, strange...

I recognized San Gimignano at the very first sight!
Beautiful composition and perfeclt light management, you choose the perfect moment to shoot! (the black bird is there to confirm!)
Maybe the topo of the tower is slightly blurred, but it's not important, this is really a nice portrait of this little medieval jewel!

P.S. there was little people there! I've always seen San Gimignan full of tourists abd of horrible souvenirs shop... how did you manage to shot a desert one?
