Photographer’s Note

San Martín de Castañeda es una localidad del municipio de Galende, en la comarca de Sanabria, al noroeste de la provincia de Zamora, en la Comunidad Autónoma de Castilla y León.

Se encuentra junto a la orilla norte del Lago de Sanabria, a unos 200 m sobre el nivel del agua y dista 18 km de la cabeza de partido de la comarca, Puebla de Sanabria.

Probablemente el origen de este pueblo sea con las las primeras construcciones anexas y se servidumbre para el Monasterio de San Martín de Castañeda, en el período suevo-visigótico del siglo VI.

El Parque Natural del Lago de Sanabria ocupa una extensión de 22.365 hectáreas, y dentro de sus límites se encuentra el mayor lago de origen glaciar de la Península Ibérica, con 318,7 Ha y una profundidad máxima de 51 m, así como varias lagunas dispersas por la sierra y cañones demostrativos de la acción glaciar cuaternaria que unido a una exuberante vegetación de gran variedad en todos sus estratos y a innumerables cascadas y regatos hace que esta zona posea increíbles valores estéticos y paisajísticos.

La altitud del parque varía entre los 997 metros en las orillas del lago, hasta los 2.124 metros del pico de Peña Trevinca. Constituye un lugar magnifico donde estudiar la acción de los glaciares sobre el terreno.

San Martin de Castañeda is a village in the municipality of Galende in the Sanabria region, northwest of the province of Zamora in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Leon.

It is adjacent to the northern shore of Lago de Sanabria, about 200 meters above water level and 18 km far from the chief town of the region, Puebla de Sanabria.

Probably the origin of this people is the first with associated outbuildings and is bonded to the Monastery of San Martín de Castañeda, in the Swabian-Visigothic period of the sixth century.

The Natural Park of Lago de Sanabria covers an area of 22,365 hectares, and within its boundaries is the largest glacial lake in the Iberian Peninsula, with 318.7 ha and a maximum depth of 51 m, as well as several lakes scattered through the mountains and canyons demonstration of quaternary glacial action combined with a lush vegetation of great variety in all its strata and countless waterfalls and rivulets that this area has made incredible scenic and aesthetic values.

The park's elevation ranges from 997 meters on the banks of the lake to the peak of 2124 meters Trevinca. It is a great place to study the action of glaciers on the ground.

An excellent downwards point of view on this village enhanced by the framing from the foreground vegetation. I like the way the light plays across the foreground whilst the background is in shadow. Very good natural looking colours and excellent sharpness.

A superb view of the village and its church spread out on the slopes beside the lake. I see a slight Autumn haze and some colouring in the leaves, which you wisely included in your photo in the foreground. You had a very good position to capture the crescent shaped curves of the lake and the village. Well done.

A silver lake and a golden light!
when the sunshine comes out of dark clouds there is always a very particular and lovely light like here. I love this eagle eye sight of this charming village surrounded by a a fine natural scenery. The good clarity allows us to appreciate all the interesting details like the church with the camposanto.

Hola Charo,
Creo que no conozco esta perspectiva de este lugar tan bonito que visité hace ya muchos años. El pueblo en el medio de los arboles, con el prado a izquierda, "abrazando" la curva del lago y la encuesta resulta muy pintoresco y tu lo hiciste aun mas con ese "balcón" de arbusto anunciando el otoño. No es fácil manejar la luz con el sol en frente, principalmente en panorámicas como esta, pero tu lo lograste muy bien.
