Photographer’s Note

This photo is taken at Trittenheim in the Moselle Valley.

The St. Lawrence chapel (Laurentiuskapelle) is dedicated to the vine, and first mentioned in 1569. In thoses days people lived on the hill near the chapel, which was also a church for the surrounding villages. Trittenheim was still written as ’Tritthamme’.

Every year, on the second weekend in August, there is a procession to the chapel and a service for the Patron Saint of vine, asking for a fruitful harvest and to be spared from bad weather and plague.

The chapel was restored from 1997 to 1999.

In the WS you can see an interior photo.
