Photographer's Note

South from the main crossing pass of the Alps, Brenner - Brennero, the valley Eisacktal - Val d'Isarco leads towards the city of Bolzano - Bozen. Above the city of Klausen - Chiusa, just about 200 m uphill of this monastery I took this shot towards the Dolomites. The mountain group in the background are the Geissler - Odles, which in the local Ladin language means neadles. Under these mountains in the valley Villnöss - Funes is the birthplace of the famous climber Reinhold Messner who was the first man on earth to climb all the 14 peaks above 8000 m sea level. The small village visible on the right is Gufidaun - Gudon.
The tree is an old apple tree, much bigger then the small ones today used for the "industrial" apple production down in the valley. But the cows don't bother ...
