Sixth entry for winter scav hunt: vertical lines theme
This is a detail of Palace of Justice of Milan.
here another view of the same tower.
The Milan Palace of Justice is a significant example of the Marcello Piacentini's complex personality.
Piacentini conceived the building as "the greatest one built by the fascist regime, and one that features the work of Italy's best artists . . . to a point of making it a museum of modern art" (Lupano, 1991). And precisely this "subversive" intention behind this building was to cost it a very long quarantine. Almost ten years (from 1931 to 1939) were to pass from the building was started till it was completed; an unusually long period for those years. A considerable part of these years passed while the appropriateness of the decorations that represented nude bodies, in such official premises, were discussed.
The heavy grey curtains that covered the frescoes and mosaics made by Funi, Sironi, Cadorin, Carra and Campigli were not removed until this was ordered (in 1942) by Dino Grandi, Minister of Justice. Despite such political difficulties, the building is (from a critical point of view) one of Piacentini's best realizations. Pillars; covered, reinforced concrete, ample "absolutely modern" skylights offset the monumental appearance of the structure, creating unusually well-proportioned spaces. |

Nice point of view. I think I remember this from another angle across a park. The lines are really great. The surfaces so smooth. There was some impressive architecture from this period here and in EUR and the new cities in Latina, including Latina. This is very elegantly proportioned, especially from here. It's also interesting the title you chose. I called my photo of the Fisher Building in Detroit from roughly the same time period Verticality. It's a nice contrast between two different design styles but both achieving the same goal, a strong verticality.

A front completely a white stone Gae, the angle shadows in the windows is beautiful, the large lines of the windows too. Nicely done!
L'angle choisit est tres intéressant et tres impressionnant , beau contraste avec ce beau ciel bleu .
Great perspective and nice crop. Excelent!
