Photographer’s Note
With this pic I start a small series of photos taken in various Syrian castles.
There are several ancient castles and fortresses dating back to the time of Crusades in Syria. The most famous and best preserved is Krak Des Chevaliers (better known to local people as Qala'at al Hosn) where I took this picture. It is a bit strange to find such fine sample of gothic architecture so far to the East from Europe.
You can find some interesting info about Crusader places in Syria on this site.
=====
I thought that these ancient walls would be better presented in B&W.

Dmitry, man you are not kidding, the B&W really helps this shot. I expect a crusader to step into this picture any minute. Awesome note, too. I never thought about crusader castles.
Good luck,
Matt

Great shot Dmitry!
I love the moody feel to the photo, and the fact that all we can see is the old fortress. Nothing extra to take away from the great lineage in the photo. This is a great architecture shot.
Very well done Dmitry!

Very simple photo, but it has something what catches eye: nice composition, DOF, tonal range and toning to BW. Congrats!

Hi Dmitry !
You've taken a very good viewpoint, light and shadow, and the B&W adds more ancient mood to this place. Will wait to see your other pictures from this series.
Do svidania :-)

I have been browsing some of your photos and really like your work. This one exemplifies your ability to capture geometric architecture well. Nice job on the contrast in your conversion and the tonal range in the picture. One of my only compaints about trekearth, is that people tend to really like the saturated color pictures of sunsets, etc. Although they have there place, I appreciate good photographic work that does not rely soley on color to impress people. I like the composition of this as well as some of your other work as well. Marked you as a favorite. Thanks for sharing
