This giant statue stands at Wat Sri Sudaram on the Thonbury side of the river.
It depicts a former abbot, who was a very famous monk and who is venerated as an “arahanta’ (like a saint). His devotees have constructed this statue in his memory and they keep golden and glittering. People come from all over the city to pay respect to this famous spiritual teacher. |

Nice one, Kevin, it really needs the full size treatment though, as the little people are dwarfed in thumbnail. This notwithstanding, a fine picture from the "other" side of Bangkok, and why not? Cheers, Francis

I missed this shot, Kevin, or I was tired then...
The scale of this giant statue is a very rare manifestation of devotion to another person than the Buddha. I do not think there is another one in thailand quite like this. It's wondeful that you shot at dusk, the contrast with the sky workd the best against the gilt of the image. I bet he'd have a chuckle, seeing himself in gold, and probably scold the devotees for risking to confuse the message with the messenger.
