Back to the off-the beaten track destinations. This is a daytrip that we took from Ayacucho to Vilcashuaman. Ayacucho is a beautiful colonial city
in the central highlands about 600 km north of Cusco. The city has an impressive colonial legacy and is now connected to the coast by a new road build by the Fujimori administration.

We left Ayacucho at 5 am in a taxi to go 80 KM towards Vilcashuaman, one of the Inca regional capitals through a gravel road going through beatufiful and wild scenerywhich is about 80 KM which is why the trip takes quite a few hours. On the way we stopped in a Puya forest, and other wonders.

This was our breakfast stop, a small hamlet in the middle of nowhere where trucks carrying pasengers would stopover. The hamlet has quite a few
restaurants where you can eat a hearty breakfast of soup, rice and chicken, and tea for about 1 USD. In the andes, breakfasts are hearty because of the
tradition of peasant people eating well before hitting the fields. By the way, Luan you will love Peru as rice is served with everything, everywhere.

The fallen sign says "Choclo con Queso y Chicharrones".
Choclo is a peruvian spanish word for corn,, so corn with cheese. Chicharrones is a local specialty of pork meat fried in its own grease. It is very good.
