Photographer’s Note
Picture was taken at Eira do Serrado viepoint - what you can see is the village of Curral das Freiras which is located about 500 meters below. It is said that this village is located in the old volcano but recent investigations do not seem to confirm that.

Very wonderful and clear photo. Curral das Freiras means the nuns corral. This was the place that the nuns in the seaside villages would run to for protection from invading pirates. This place was very well defended.
