Photographer’s Note

As you might know, Russian Orthodox Church calendar has a lag of 13 days with regards to civil calendar used all over Europe and Americas. So 25th December becomes 7th January etc.
Last Christmas we spent in a short trip to nearby cities of so-called Golden Ring - a dozen of ancient towns NE of Moscow. Due to very bad weather, the trip was limited to 2 towns only - Vladimir (known since 11th Century) and Suzdal (one century older).

While walking in the evening around oldest Vladimir quarters (former Citadel) I've noticed a somewhat strange effect created by spotlight and fog (or mist if you prefer :) ) - a giant shadow of bell-tower in the sky. This effect was hard enough to capture because of wide dynamic range, low ambient light and with only monopod, but thanks to raw format and new Adobe converter the result I've got is not very bad IMHO.

This is Assumption Cathedral (Uspensky Sobor - in Russian) built in 1158-60. The bell tower was erected much later in the beginning of 19th century.

There are Andrey Rublyov's frescoes inside, and this church is a part of the World Heritage Site entitled White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal.
