Here we can see the northern edge of Magellan strait, it is part of mainland and it is Patagonian territory. I took this photo when I was crossing it by ferry-boat in Bahia Azul, the edges of this strait are chilenian territory. It is the same place discovered by a portuguese sailor called Fernão de Magalhães, at the end of this strait they found Pacific ocean. It was the first trip around the world but Magellan didn't get to finish it. In the edges od this strait he saw many bonfires made by indians and called this place of Land of Fire.

Aqui podemos ver a margem norte do Estreito de Magalhães que já é parte do continente e da Patagônia. Fiz esta imagem durante a travessia de balsa em Bahia Azul.Ambas as margens deste estreito são território chileno. É o mesmo lugar descoberto pelo navegador português Fernão de Magalhães. Depois da travessia do estreito descobriram o oceano Pacífico. Foi esta a primeira volta ao mundo mas Magalhães não chegou a concluí-la. Neste mesmo local ele avistou muitas fogueiras acesas pelos nativos e por conta disto chamou aquela região de Terra do Fogo.

Hola Jorge,
Bonita imagen la que nos presentas del estrecho de Magallanes.
Es interesante ver como luce aquella parte tan lejana para uno.
Con la composición panorámica obtuviste muy buenos detalles del lugar.

Excelente imagem e ótima nota. Eu não sabia a origem do nome Terra do Fogo. Para mim, desde o colegial sempre pareceu uma terra de fantasia.

Ola Jorge,
You were lucky here to see such a beautiful colour of the Magellan Strait. I went by the afternoon ferry from Punta Arenas to Porvenir and the sea was rather gloomy. We set the feet on Tierra del Fuego and went back. But in the night there was Cruz del Sur clearly visible on the sky and it was very impressive. Interesting note. Few people know about people living there and their very tragic fate.

a cor do mar ficou muito bonita! Bela paisagem, dava pra fazer uma panorâmica nessa! Até hoje eu não sabia porque resolveram chamar essa terra tão fria de Terra do Fogo...
