Photographer’s Note

This photo was taken in New Jerusalem Monastery in the town of Istra not far from Moscow. One of the most impressive Moscow region monasteries, it once was a place of pilgrimage for believers from every part of Russia. Among other buildings there is very unusual underground church of Constantin and Elena, which looks as though it has submerged into the ground. This is where I saw this scene. What attracted me was almost identical composition of the icon, which the woman looks at, and the scene itself.

What attracted me also is da da da... Plus I like the way the painting (inside the painting) is brightly lit, the warm candles in the foreground in contrast, every element wonderfully positioned. I might want to crop the very left, that dark little bump behind the lady, but beautiful scene nonetheless. -K.

Hi Dmitry,
As you say, identical standing of woman in your photo and woman in the icon seems nice. In addition to this, I like enlightment on the icon, which causes a spritual atmosphere.
I would prefer table (I guess there is another icon on it) at left corner, blocking the woman, wasn't there.
